Seekler Preview: Look 'n feel

OK, I'm back with another preview of Seekler. Our latest mock-up shows off the latest proposed look 'n feel.

This mock-up shows the same page as last time: you can see how a list will be displayed as well as the UI for adding items, navigating pages, and searching.

What do you think of our look? Does the page layout make sense? Do you like the color scheme? Is it too complex? Or too simple and boring?

Looks clean, what type of software do you use to design something like this?

Shouldn't that be "other contributors"?

Seriously, though, it's a great look! I like the striped blue background, and nothing seems out of place. Maybe you want to give the central list a bit more real estate, though?

Thanks for the feedback!

Big L - We actually have a graphic designer doing this for us (we're focusing on writing the application code), so I'm not 100% sure. I assume it's either Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator.

Adam - Yeah, I think we may want to give the central list some more room. We'll see how it feels when we get real data in there. We may end up shrinking the UI on the left and right sides slightly.

Looks great, and you can never be "too boring", the simpler the better, people are mainly concerned about if IT WORKS or NOT. (look at a little company called google).

That's good advice. We're doing our best to focus on releasing something very simple (but useful) instead of tacking on lots of unnecessary UI and features.

looks good, but here are three quick questions...

1. have you considered adding thumbnail pictures next to each item?

2. have you considered a messaging/blogging component to the site?

3. are you going to have a contest/vote for your slogan? if so, my submission is "let's seek together."

Thanks for the questions!

1. We have considered having an image (or perhaps many images) for each item. We think this would be hugely useful, especially for products (although it could still be useful for places). This won't make the cut for our first release, but we've got it on our list of requested features.

2. We definitely want to add commenting to our site. This is one of the best ways to build a community and let users explain why they like a particular item over others. Unfortunately, this also won't be included in our first release.

3. The current slogan shown in our mock-ups ("the Wikipedia of opinion") is definitely not our actual slogan. We are kicking around some ideas right now. We may allow users to vote on this or we may just pick one for now. In any case, thanks for the slogan suggestion.

I think once we let people on the alpha site, one of the featured lists should be slogan ideas. We have a few we have been kicking around we can prepopulate the list with that and let our family and friends make suggestions on the site. Sounds like a good first use to me.

I don't know if the list "pops" enough for me yet. I wonder if making the background a bit darker would draw my attention to it more. I like this version a lot better than the last one.
